"Wie Ben Ik" was the first solo show at Arnica Artist Run Centre and my first solo exhibit after Graduating from Thompson Rivers University in 2005. That year the grauduating students felt strongly about having a place to go to once we graudated at which time we created Arnica Artist Co op which today is Arnica Artist Run Centre in Kamloops. All the grads felt this would allow us as a group to continue our artistic journey. Today most of my class still works as artists.
T.S Elliot quotes: “What we all call the beginning is often the end
And to make out end is to make a beginning
The end is were we start from.”
I used knitting and my house restoration as metaphors for my own life. The knitted sculptural pieces are formed from metal and jute and combined with found objects such as broken dishes found under my back porch and personal artifacts, faded photographs and journal writings. The work evokes a sense of anomie – an anxious awareness that the prevailing values of society have little or no personal relevance to one’s condition
In the work, Knitting Beyond, viewers are invited to knit/weave and add personal artifacts or objects of their own to create an ongoing narrative within the gallery.
